Make your own CBD soap: Our recipe

If you love making your own DIY soaps and know the benefits of CBD on your skin, find out how to make your CBD soap!

A CBD soap has anti-inflammatory and moisturizing properties on your skin. Unfortunately, it's hard to find it in stores. The only solution you have is to make your own. This way, you control a lot of things, namely the dosages. Indeed, CBD regulates the production of sebum. It also helps treat psoriasis and eczema.

Also, it contains vitamin E, which is an excellent skin care active. When you decide to make your own cold process soap, you are committing to providing your skin with softness and moisture. Our recipe is pretty simple, but there are a few precautions to take!

Mix oils, CBD isolate and lye to make your cold saponification. You will need utensils and some ingredients like coconut oil, olive oil, castor oil, lye, etc.

Whether you're a professional or an amateur, our tips and recipe will be of great help. Handling CBD and soda is not easy, so follow the instructions carefully!

Discover the ingredients in our recipe

The oils in this recipe should not be modified. Also, it's important to be mindful of the dosage of each ingredient. You will need:

  • 737 G Virgin olive oil;

  • 170 G coconut oil;

  • 283 g deionized water;

  • 1g CBD isolate;

  • 124g of pure caustic soda;

  • 28g castor oil.

Your caustic soda must be pure, that is, 100% composed of soda. The label should display the symbol NaOH. Definitely do not confuse caustic soda with percarbonate of soda, soda crystals or baking soda.

Note the utensils you will need

To make your CBD soap, you will need utensils. Don't use the utensils you use to make your meals, opt for new utensils for exclusive use. So here is everything that is important:

  • An apron;

  • Closed shoes;

  • Clothing that protects you from everywhere;

  • Goggles;

  • A mask to protect you from soda fumes;

  • Special gloves for chemicals;

  • A precision scale;

  • A stainless steel bowl for preparing the soda solution;

  • A wooden, silicone or stainless steel spatula;

  • A thermometer;

  • A hand blender;

  • A Ph paper;

  • A saucepan for melting solid oils and butters in a water bath;

  • A stainless steel container to prepare the soap paste.

Don't use aluminum at all; glass is not recommended either!

The recipe itself

Before you start making this recipe, read it carefully. Have your equipment ready and also protect your work surface with newspaper.

  • Start by weighing out your oils (coconut oil to melt). Add to the melted oil the olive oil and castor oil, as well as CBD isolate. Make sure the mixture is between 37°C and 46°C;

  • In another stainless steel bowl, pour the 283l of water, then add the soda gently, mixing with a spatula;

  • Once the soda solution is ready, wait until it is between 37°C and 46°C;

  • As soon as the two mixtures (soda solution and oils) are at equivalent temperatures, pour the soda solution into the bowl containing the oil mixture, stirring vigorously with a spatula. Then blend with an immersion blender. Blend until you see a trace of it. The streak indicates that the soap has begun to solidify. This may take a few minutes;

  • Pour the dough into your chosen molds and let it sit for at least 24 hours and no more than 48 hours. Turn out your soaps with gloves, cut them out and let them rest in a temperate, airy place to properly complete the saponification process.

Can I change the oils in the recipe?

Yes, you can change the oils in the recipe, but first you need to know that each oil has a different fatty acid profile. It is according to these fatty acids that the amount of soda needed for the preparation is determined. To change the oils, you must therefore be sure that you can redo the calculations to know the exact amount of soda to use. To do this, multiply the NaOH saponification number by the weight.
